Anthony Curtis - Biography
After a distinguished career in arts journalism (literary editor Sunday Telegraph, arts and literary editor FT) Anthony Curtis retired some years ago to concentrate on his own writing having already published a standard work on Somerset Maugham. Since then he has published a book of memoirs Lit Ed and most recently at the end of June, a new biography of Virginia Woolf, Virginia Woolf: Bloomsbury and Beyond.
He has written many book and theatre reviews and appeared regularly on Radio 3’s ‘Critics Forum’ and has had original plays and dramatised features produced on Radios 3 & 4.
Believing that Scribe is much underrated as a playwright, he has made adaptations of several of his plays. One of them Adrienne Lecouvreur was as Adrienne’s Amour given a rehearsed reading in the Holland Park Theatre directed by Clifford Williams in tandem with the opera based on it.
